Martins Travel Agency was founded in 1948 by Bernard Martin and operated from a small upstairs room in Oswald Road Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. The success of the business lead to a move in 1952 to larger premises at 33 Oswald Road Scunthorpe. An additional office was opened in 1962 at 234 Ashby High Street Scunthorpe, moving in later years to new premises called Alexandra House to the rear of the original site.
The agency prospered on Oswald Road for a good many years organising increasing numbers of holidays for the people of northern Lincolnshire and beyond. General and business travel added to the mix of products offered. Offering increased sales potential to peak in the mid 1990's With increasing levels of competition, especially from the internet, the decision was taken to relocated both offices to newly refurbished premises back at 234 Ashby High Street. Sadly this could not stem changing trends with the business closing its retail premises in June 2011 to become a home-work operation keeping the memorable phone number of Scunthorpe 842 842 and continuing to offer advice and bookings on the widest range of travel options |
